Timing an Activity

Both Time and Disbursements can be timed in order to record the length of time taken to complete a task. If an interruption in the task should occur, the timer for that task can be stopped and restarted at a later time.

To start the timer, click on the timer icon. The words below the timer will change to "Stop" and the timer display will tick off the time in hours, minutes and seconds (HH:MM:SS).

To stop the timer, click on the timer icon. The amount of time taken will then be displayed in the Timer field and will be shown in hours, minutes and seconds (HH:MM:SS).

The timer can also be started and stopped using the command keys (Ctrl/Cmd-T).

The "Timer" field can be edited in hours, minutes and seconds if there had been time spent on the project prior to the timer being set.

While an event is being timed, the other information on the card can be edited. For example, notes can be added during a timed phone call.

If the timer is used on a Time activity slip, the time will be rounded up to the next tenth of an hour (6 minutes). If the timed event is longer than the hours entered, then the "Hours" field will be incremented up to the new total time spent on the activity.

If the timer is used on a Disbursement slip, the time will be rounded up to the next minute. If the timed event is longer than the quantity entered, then the "Qty" field will be incremented up to the new total time spent on the activity.
